Scoring A Silhouette Match

Scoring:

Scoring is exactly the same for both NRA and IHMSA sanctioning, Long Range and Smallbore, Rifle or Air Pistol. It is the easiest part of all.

A hit is marked on your score card as an "X", a miss as "O". Your score is how many "X's" out of a possible 40 - 60 - 80 round match you hit and knocked down (a regular monthly match is 40 rounds). At the end of each 5 shot string you mark your score card for that string. When you complete the course of fire you simply add up the "X's". A score of 10X40 means that you put 10 targets down in a 40 round match.

NRA

In your first match you compete in "unclassified class" and you compete "only against other unclassified shooters". Your first score in each category that you shoot places you in a skill class that you compete in the next time you shoot that same category. As an example, your first score in Conventional Standing is an "A" class score. The "next" time you shoot Conventional Standing" you compete in "A" class and only against other "A" class shooters.

IHMSA
In IHMSA there is no "unclassified class". The first score fired in each category places you in that class. As an example, your first score in "Unlimited Standing" is a "AA" score. For that match and each match thereafter you compete in "AA" class "only against other "AA" class shooters" until your scores improve and you move up in class.
