| NRA Hunter Pistol targets are at 40 - 50 - 75 -
100 meters and are 1/2 size targets.
The IHMSA category is called Field Pistol
and the targets are at 25 - 50 - 75 - 100 meters.
Both of these categories are the same, merely
different sanctioning bodies using different names for the same discipline.
There are two categories of Hunter / Field
Pistol. Open Sights and Scope sights. Both categories are standing (off-hand)
and NRA Conventional or IHMSA Production Category rules apply.
Ammunition:
With only three exceptions Hunter / Field Pistol
only allows straight wall pistol cartridges. The only "necked" cartridge allowed
in NRA competition is the Winchester 32-20, NRA and IHMSA both allow the use of
the 22 Hornet and the 270 Ren (wildcat).
OPEN SIGHTS:
BOTH NRA and IHMSA
Any stock as manufactured un-modified, readily
available catalog handgun with a barrel length of 10 3/4" or less. Bolt guns are
not allowed in hunter pistol. Standing (off-hand) only. Weight limit is 4.0
pounds in IHMSA and 4.5 pounds in NRA.
SCOPE SIGHTS: BOTH NRA and IHMSA
Any stock, as manufactured un-modified, readily
available catalog handgun with a barrel length or 10 3/4" or less. Equipped with
a scope sight or pointing device only. Bolt guns are not allowed in Hunter /
Field Pistol. Standing (off-hand) only. Weight limit is 4.5 pounds. Scope cannot
be mounted more than 1.5" from top of barrel to bottom of tube per NRA rules/
IHMSA has no such rule.
